STAFF IS THE HEART OF HSI

Your kindness as a supporter never goes unnoticed, and we’re always feeling the love. This support fuels the commitment HSI staff shows to the people we serve, and why they are the ‘heart’ of our organization!
We celebrated our staff at our recent “Building” a Great New Year Together event where they got to flex their creative and analytical minds, with a mix of teamwork and nostalgia while constructing everyone’s favorite, Legos! While they celebrated a successful 2024 and toasted to the excitement of a new year under new leadership, events like this are important to bring our staff together to share ideas and updates amidst HSI’s non-stop day to day.
Our employees not only show their love and commitment for our mission in the work they do every day, they volunteer their time – in frigid temperatures no less – to ensure our community’s most vulnerable will continue to have access to the help they need. Recently several of our staff participated in the annual Point-in-Time Count (PIT; the count of sheltered and unsheltered people experiencing homelessness on one given night) not only surveying our own guests, but volunteering to collect data outside of our facilities. Staff were also thrilled to conduct the PIT Count alongside some of our shelter guests who volunteered to help locate and survey people – a true testament to the trust they develop with our guests and the remarkable way they embody HSI’s mission.
Another little piece of our heart of course belongs to HSI’s extraordinary Volunteer Manager, Tamala Reynolds! It’s only fitting that Tamala’s anniversary with HSI falls in February, as the love she gives in her role is felt by all. This year, Tamala is celebrating 25 YEARS with us – 25 years of a commitment to organizing 500+ volunteers a year in various roles, making sure our guests are taken care of as they focus on their journey to housing stability. Tamala has put her heart and soul into her job and our volunteers have helped lift her. From organizing cooking groups 365 days a year, donation drives, parties, facilities upkeep and everything in between, you show up as volunteers for HSI and Tamala feels this love!
