Olga’s Story

Olga had a good job and lived in a beautiful home with her son. Their life changed quickly when her company downsized and she lost her job. She is so thankful to volunteers, donors, and staff at HSI and the support system they have created to help get her back on her feet.

This is Olga and her son Michael. Many people have unforeseen circumstances that can completely change their life.

Olga’s company downsized and she suddenly found herself without a job. She advanced quickly in this position thanks to her strong work ethic. But without a college degree, she struggled to find new work. She thought going back to school was the answer. Olga took classes online to obtain her Associate Degree in Health Sciences while working three part-time jobs. Having zero industry experience, no one would hire her. Eventually, she and her son depleted their savings. Olga and Michael had no family or friends to turn to for help. They became homeless.

Then, a glimmer of hope. Olga and Michael were accepted into our Transitional Housing Program (THP).

“When I first saw the apartment at THP, I got so emotional,” Olga reflected. “It was what I prayed so hard for. The wood floors, the sun shining in through the windows, the polka dot window curtains. I just sat there and cried because I knew in this moment that things were going to get better for us.”

Thanks to the hard working staff at THP, Olga was able to save her money and graduate from the program. She and Michael moved into their very own apartment.
