‘Night in the Cold’ small discomfort for Mendham Township homeless advocate

The small, black hours of the overnight between Saturday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 5 were freezing, damp torture Dan McGuire knew he could end simply by crawling from out of his makeshift tent back into his own cozy bed in his warm house on Thackery Lane.

But McGuire, chief executive officer of the Cedar Knolls-based nonprofit Homeless Solutions, knew enduring one night of misery could never compare with the endless nights – and days – experienced by the homeless, forced to live on the streets, in their cars, or in shelters that provide a roof, but none of the little luxuries – let alone safety – of a bona fide home.
